I’ve recently sold a valuable 24 year old comic book to a fraudulent buyer via my web site. The comic was in near mint+ condition yet this buyer upon receipt of the item informed me that one staple was detached from the cover of the book. He insisted that a give him a significant partial refund which I refused knowing that his claim was nonsense.
I had photographed every page of that comic right before sending it to him to have a record of it’s condition and not one of these photos showed any type of problem with any of the staples. He filed a Paypal claim against me saying the item was significantly not as advertised. I explained the situation to Paypal and uploaded three photos to them which showed that the staple problem he mentioned did not exist.
Paypal got back to me with the verdict that the buyer must return the item to me in the same condition as he received it and upon my receipt of this item I must refund him 100% of his payment. After furnishing Paypal with visual evidence of the true condition of this item how do they determine that the buyer is correct and should get a full refund? I believe the buyer has another copy of this comic that indeed has a detached staple. He will keep my high grade copy that I sent to him and return his lower grade copy to me and get all of his money back. I voiced my theory of what was happening here to Paypal and all they told me was that if I didn’t get back the same exact comic book I must go to the police and file a report. They gave me no guidance on how to do this.
I’m an American living in Brazil with only limited Portuguese speaking competency. The police here don’t speak English and probably have no experience with Paypal problems involving an international transaction (from Brazil to the USA). What can I do? Where’s my seller protection?

I bought several items and paid for them August 15 11:55 pm. There was reversals for many of the items Aug 16 at 12:15 am. They ended up in my unpaid items. I clicked on the items to pay on Aug 17 and it charged me $130. shipping on free shipping items. paypal said it was ebay. ebay said it was the seller. The sellers said it was a ebay paypal glitch. ebay paypal and sellers wont refund my money or cancel my order. I have been on the phone for 8 hours starting immediately after the transaction happened. paypal said they couldnt refund my money they are like a bank. Ebay said the sellers charged the money. The sellers said they didnt charge me shipping. They said it was a glitch at ebay and paypal. There are several items still in my unpaid item list ebay said they are paid for the sellers say they aren’t. Sellers say its a ebay paypal glitch. I’ve sold things on ebay and I know the sellers dont charge anything. You list the item. You choose to not charge for shipping and the listing is viewed as free shipping. When the auction ends you get what was bid on the item, that’s all. I think this is a ebay-paypal scam.

I did 7 years of blameless trade with them, then I fell into the hands of a couple of dishonest buyers. When I resisted, I was stuffed. eBay closed my account. Six months later, having divorced and gone back to my maiden name, and from a new address, I opened another – much needed – eBay and Paypal account. I started trading and – BAM! – they say they have found a connection to a blocked account, delete all my entries and block my new account. Do these bastards have any idea how much harm they are doing to innocent people? Their creepy and insidious investigation of everything you do leads to inevitable connections with past activities. If those past activities – no matter how innocent – have got you into trouble, that stuffs you for all time. The world needs to wake up to how dangerous eBay and Paypal have become. They have appointed themselves judge, jury and executioner, in a trial in which the only mover is eBay and Pay pal profit. I hope both businesses crash and burn for what they’ve done to an innocent and well-meaning victim of dishonest eBay buyers.

I made a transaction yesterday for a OnePlus2 phone using an invite (which is obv very hard to get). OnePlus2 only allows PayPal as the payment gateway. I made the payment of 402.99$ of which 167$ were deducted from my paypal account and rest around 235$ from my bank account. PayPal showed transaction as successful and i received a confirmation email with the transaction ID.
However the seller (OnePlus2) still showed payment as pending and there was no record of it on PayPal account page.
I called a customer care representative and shared the transaction ID with her and she said that there is some issue and she think the transaction is successful. I told her that the seller cannot see a payment received and my invite would be void in 2 hours. Before we could complete the phone got disconnected.
To my horror when i called again somehow mysteriously this transaction ID stopped showing any details for PayPal customer service as well as for me. I went through a pain of 2-3 hours from one agent to another repeating it, till my call was forwarded to a senior agent who refused to accept any transaction as he cant see it.
I asked him to justify the 167$ deducted from my paypal account and asked where it went and how is my balance zero. At this he realized the miss and put me on hold multiple times before giving me the best statement of the year – “Sir for now what i can say is we don’t know where your balance went. I will have to go through my engineering team”.
Since it was clear I was not getting a resolution soon and my invite would be voided I made the purchase again and this time the seller accepted the payment and an order was made with an order number. However next day i see 402.99$ deducted from my Bank account which is current but also a 235$ charge which is for the missed transaction and somehow two transactions show up on paypal page.
Calling the customer care again was painful as now they were arguing they can see two transactions (Obviously as they did something overnight) and asked me to call OnePlus. Now i called OnePlus and they were right at their end as they only have data for one because only one order was done and only one order number generated. And they suggested me to call PayPal.
Again i called Paypal and they finally said they could do nothing but dispute one payment. It was a two day nightmare. It does sound scary for your financial account holder to say your balance just vanished and we cannot see it. It is still resolved and not sure how much hassle i will have to go through in the coming days.

I bought some perfumes from a guy in Italy via ebay in May last year which he sent via EMS. Months and months passed and I received nothing. I checked the EMS tracking website and it said that they had left Italy a few days after I purchased them.
I opened a dispute with Paypal and I sent them all the details including a screenshot of the tracking information.
They then sent me a ‘standard’ email claiming that I had received the package and my dispute was then closed! I appealed their decision again stating that I never received the stuff and again they sent me the same standard email!
After searching around for a while I found their telephone number in Luxembourg and I spoke to a guy there and explained my case. Basically, he didn’t want to know! After countless emails and being ignored by Paypal, I finally decided to dispute it via my credit card. I got the money from them within a week, no questions asked!!!!
I think the package got sent back to the seller and he pocketed the money as well as the merchandise!! and since he has Paypal plus, Paypal took his side.
Paypal and their customer services is total crap!!!

Tried to use the Ebay global shipping program for the first time and sold a printer. Buyer agreed to a price with shipping but only paid a portion of the total. Ebay would not let me ship because payment was incomplete. Buyer got mad at me for not shipping but Ebay never let me have the address. Spent days on the phone trying to resolve and tried to be a good seller by keeping the buyer updated on the situation. Buyer refused to correct the payment and I ultimately opened a case in Ebay for non-payment since that was the only way to cancel this problematic order. I won the case and the order was cancelled and the buyer refunded. Then the buyer then opened a second case in Paypal to get his/her money back twice. Paypal automatically sided with the buyer and ignored any proof I sent them about the already settled case in Ebay. Paypal stole money out of my account to give to the buyer who I am convinced did all this on purpose to get double their money back. It was a trick from the beginning and Paypal fell for it. This scam artist got away scott free and I have a negative account balance which I refuse to pay because I should not have to. I was in the right and I wasted a ton of my time. I do NOT owe them anything but Paypal has sent the balance they stole to multiple collection agencies.
