Janine had always been an avid collector of antiques and vintage items, so when she stumbled upon an old and mysterious item on eBay, she couldn't resist making the purchase. The item was described as an ancient relic with strange markings and a powerful energy, but Janine was convinced it was just a unique and interesting piece for her collection.

However, as soon as she received the package, strange things began to happen. Her home was plagued by strange noises and ghostly apparitions. Objects in her house would move on their own, and she felt a constant sense of unease and fear. Janine soon realized that the ancient relic she had purchased was not just a unique piece, but it was actually cursed.

She tried to return the item to the seller, but they had disappeared without a trace. The only way to break the curse was to find someone who could destroy the relic and put an end to its haunting power. But as she delved deeper into her search, she discovered that others who had purchased the relic had suffered similar fates, and that no one had ever succeeded in breaking the curse.

Janine's life became a living nightmare, as the haunted relic seemed to have taken control of her home and her life. She was constantly tormented by the ghostly apparitions and the strange noises, and she felt as if she was being watched and controlled by the cursed item.

Years passed, and Janine was never seen or heard from again. Some say she was consumed by the haunted relic, and others claim that she was driven mad by its evil power. But one thing is for sure, the cursed item that she purchased on eBay will forever be remembered as the source of one of the most frightening and mysterious hauntings of all time.

Not a real big item but interesting change on eBay.

I have been a long time seller and occasional buyer. I have a list of saved sellers, for a couple of reasons. There are certain sellers I like to buy items from. There are also sellers that sell the same type of items as mine. I like to gauge my competition.

I have been selling since 2000 on eBay so my list of saved sellers was near 100. Until a few days ago if a seller did not have any items for sale a purple line would be underneath their handle stating they currently have 0 items for sale. I noticed that as of a couple of weeks ago 75% of my saved sellers did not have any items for sale. Lots of little purple lines.

Many with over 10,000 transactions. My sales have dropped dramatically with a decline last December. Normally my best month for sales. So I decided to check my saved sellers to see how many sales they had. Interestingly, the purple mark has disappeared and it no longer shows that a seller that has no items for sale.

It now appears everyone is selling away. However when clicking on the saved seller over 75% still did not have items for sale. A majority of these were high volume sales numbers. I believe that it was making eBay look bad with a majority of old sellers with stores bailing out.

One of the most interesting facts I noted on one of my favorite sellers. Last month a little over 10,000 listings. The number of transactions showing feedback came in at 299. I realize they may have had more actual sales as feedback does not show all transactions. However selling 3% of inventory is not a good ratio.

I mentioned it to an eBay rep while on a call concerning a different issue. He stated the fees would be more than the saved seller would sell!!!!!!!!!

He also stated it is not up to eBay to make sales for sellers. I have to agree they are doing their best on that.

Many sellers with huge feedback scores do not have any items listed.
Hope you find this interesting.

eBay doesn’t care about sellers. I’m done selling on eBay.

After going through my first dispute with a buyer it’s clear that eBay doesn’t care about sellers. The buyer finally submitted the case to eBay and within 10 minutes they were awarded the case. eBay did nothing to investigate and is simply telling me to refund them when the buyer clearly is in the wrong.

I understand that the Buyer Protection policy is meant to stop sellers from scamming buyers. Why, then, does the Seller Protection do NOTHING in terms of stopping buyers from submitting false cases?

It’s ridiculous. I’m done with eBay.

They have become all about the buyer and basically thrown their sellers to the wolves. It’s sad but I was a loyal customer and seller for 9 years and all of a sudden I got a couple months where these buyers were leaving me negatives and neutrals for things that made no sense. In fact 3 of the users were brand new and left me negatives only to message me back and inform me that they were sorry as they were new and didnt realize how ebay worked and as such wrongly left a negative! Ebay has refused to take those off even at the insistence of the BUYER! Then I had 3 others where I was left a negative or neutral BEFORE the buyer had even PAID! There was no transaction……how in the world can their be feedback left on something that did not happen (Of course because hey DIDNT EVEN PAY YET!) Once again EBAY refused to remove them. I worked through these issues that left me with restrictions and because on my review day I was 0.01% over the limits I was stuck dealing with an additional month of these restrictions! Guess what next day I get an email that my account has been restricted further and that ebay was going to have PAYPAL hold all funds for the transactions till they were proven to be complete……..I count on ebay to live as I had a back injury and cannot work a regular job so this is a major issue and as a result of them holding MY money I cannot ship out fast enough causing me to probably get more negatives for slow shipping!!!!! How can I ship WITH NO MONEY! And as they explain I can pay ebay thru paypal to pay for shipping but guess what I have no printer because mine was broken recently! I cant get it fixed because I have no money, Cant get money to fix it because they are holding my cash because of restrictions, Cant get my restrictions lifted until I get better feedback, Cant get better feedback because I cant ship items in a timely manner, Cant ship in a timely manner because They are holding my money because of restrictions! Its a vicious cycle that wont be broken because sellers are not protected. I have been ripped off by MANY MANY international buyers because the USPS and UPS can only track a package to the border and customs and once it leaves there your on your own. You cant prove it got there even with a reciept WITH their address on it the amount spent and date it was sent. So they can basically steal up to 4 high ticket items a year wihout being kicked off the site and they KNOW IT! I could go on for hours and hours on this subject as I have not even scratched the surface yet! It is quite pathetic that for the first 8 years I had no problems what so ever and now its a nasty mess and I am the one being attacked. Sad state of affairs and they just lost a great seller and buyer!

Warning: This may turn long, but I'll try to keep it as brief as possible while retaining all the pertinent facts.

I was in the market for an Oculus Rift for a project I've been working on, so I hopped on eBay and found one that came with the TF2 hat code, which I thought would be a nice thing to have. It was originally an auction, but I asked if they had a BIN price in mind. They did, I agreed with it, they added the BIN to the auction and I used it. The item was listed as being in "new, unused" condition, and there were no caveats to this in the listing description.

The item went out last Monday and arrived on Thursday, and I signed for it and set it aside for 24 hours at which point I opened it up and started setting it up. Once I got it up and running, I discovered that there were two bright spots on the LCD screen inside the Rift which looked really weird. I started poking around online to try and figure out what they were, and I shot off a message to the seller and one to the Oculus VR support team (makers of the Rift). The seller's message was letting them know that there might be an issue, that I was contacting the manufacturer to see what it was and possibly get a repair, and that I would be in touch with them when I had more info. I got a couple of basic suggestions from Oculus (spray out dust, make sure it's not the computer/cable/etc) and the weekend rolled around before we could continue.

Through some more research and careful examination of the damage (which turned out to be physical both to the LCD and the LCD plastic coating/covering), I started to realize that the damage was LCD burn. Because the rift has two magnifying lenses over the LCD, sunlight or bright overhead lighting can be focused onto the LCD screen, resulting in irreparable damage. I was at a loss for how this could have happened until I happened to glance at the listing again and realized that the seller had taken pictures of the Rift and accessories outside in bright sunlight.

I immediately contacted the seller and then Oculus again, letting everyone know what I had discovered. I informed the seller that I still was hopeful that Oculus would repair the damage (despite them not being obligated to do so), and if not, I would have to return the item since it was damaged before it arrived.

I then received a long message from the seller accusing me of having buyer's remorse, violating a "warranty" by performing the "unauthorized" action of contacting Oculus and a whole host of other things. Their end statement was, essentially, that they had no intention of giving me a refund and to take it up with eBay. I did just that and opened a dispute claiming that the item was not as described when it arrived. In the message I had to send to the seller, I summarized my original message and points.

Since then (it's been under 24 hours since I opened the case), the seller has escalated their claims to saying that I'm trying to scam them, that I admitted to damaging the unit myself (reviewing my messages, I can definitively say that I did not say anything of the sort, and I have been denying those claims in follow-up messages) and again that I did something wrong (indeed, so wrong that it means she cannot refund me even if she wanted to) by trying to contact the manufacturer about the issue, an action I took to try and minimize this type of situation in the first place.

Here's the interesting thing. As an 8-year, 100% positive feedback score (with around 45 transactions), I expected a 10-year, 100% positive with 100+ transactions to act rationally and politely, which is why I was being nice and keeping them informed with what I was finding out about the damage during my research.

What's my likelihood of winning this case? She claims that because she had another person look at the Rift with her and they both didn't see any issues (which I completely understand, since they likely did that before taking the photos of the Rift where the lenses were in direct sunlight) there couldn't be any damage and I'm a scammer. I have a photo of the damage here which isn't super great, but is time stamped on my phone.

My current actions are simply to reiterate my points (I received damaged goods when I was promised goods in new unused condition) whenever she responds, since my trying to explain what could have happened are falling on deaf ears. It'll be 3 business days before I can escalate the case, but is there anything else I can do in the meantime? I haven't used eBay in a while, but when I last did, it was a good experience. This pretty much sours me to the whole thing.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Some of you may have read a post I made about a person doing a Visa Code 53 (Not As Described Merchandise) against one of my sales a few months ago. This person made an incredibly weak attempt to return a “defective” item by suggesting that I send a replacement to her in Russia before she sent the original back. Based on my refusal, she was able to succesfully get her CC to give her a code 53 chargeback outside of PayPal. My funds were stripped instantly, and she thought it was over with. She threatened harassment charges (she is back in the U.S. now) if I attempted to contact her any further regarding the matter.

For those of you who don’t know, this type of chargeback is not covered under Paypal/eBay seller protection. There was never a case opened, just the reversal. PayPal will go to bat for you with the CC company, but there is no guarantee (several reps told me I had little hope) of getting your money back, and the buyer is “supposed to” return your merchandise, but the general perception is that this is not heavily enforced.

There is little information on these types of situations around the internet, and the information that I found almost always ended with the seller losing the money and the item.

Well, I actually won the case, the entire $800 is back in my PayPal account as of this morning. A knowledgable PayPal rep told me that the only time he ever sees a victory in this scenario is when the seller documents anything and everything. I submitted all of our emails, tracking, the signature upon delivery, her positive feedback left, even some iOS text message screenshots. I literally had a page full of stuff for them to send to the CC and it really paid off.

The point of this post is this… if this ever happens to you – YOU CAN WIN! Don’t just lay down and give up, get any info you can from the buyer and forward it on to the CC company, there is hope for sellers in these situations, especially if you can provide lots of info.
